This Video From Space Reveals A Huge Difference Between North and South Korea
A video taken by the International Space Station (ISS) in 2014 shows the stark contrast between North and South Korea at night.
The video shows the ultimate bird’s eye view as it flies across East Asia and continues over the Korean Peninsula.
As many commenters noted, the lights are shining and bright up until the spacecraft goes over North Korea. NASA noted, “North Korea is almost completely dark compared to neighboring South Korea and China. The darkened land appears as if it were a patch of water joining the Yellow Sea to the Sea of Japan. Its capital city, Pyongyang, appears like a small island, despite a population of 3.26 million (as of 2008). The light emission from Pyongyang is equivalent to the smaller towns in South Korea.”
