American artist Sean Kingston plagiarizes SHINee's song "Ready Or Not"?

Submitted: May 06 2011 10:30 PM by Flowsion

Recently, Shawols have been showing their extreme distaste towards Jamaican-American singer Sean Kingston. It was discovered that the singer released a song with Michael Mind titled, "Ready Or Not". The song is titled the exact same as SHINee's track, "Ready Or Not", which was released with their 2nd album, "LUCIFER".

The credits to Sean Kingston's songs state that the song is written by Sean Kingston with the production by the German House Music Duo, Michael Mind Project. However, the song by SHINee has lyrics written by Misfit, was composed and arranged by Mikko Tamminen, Risto Asikainen and Will Simms.

When listening to Sean Kingstons' song, it is obvious that the background melody is extremely close to SHINee's. Fans have been commenting on the track saying, "There seems to be a slight change in melody and beats.. but it is still SHINee's song" and "The song has been sean-a-tized!". However, angrier fans are calling for SM Entertainment to step in and make an announcement whether or not Sean Kingston was given permission to use this song, and if so, why no credits were given.

However, the track "Ready Or Not" by SHINee is also a remake of the song, "Girls", so there is a possibility they received permission from the original. The artist for the track, "Girls", is unknown, so that leaves this possibility as highly unlikely.

What do you think? Are the two tracks similar?

Honestly, I see some similarities but I won't go saying that Sean plagiarized SHINee's song. Only the chorus has some reminiscent melody of SHINee's version but aside from that. It's all Sean's~

Sean Kingston is a well-known artist, I find it hard to believe...the choruses are obviously the same, and the prechorus sound similar, but the verses don't. Did he sample the original song SHINee remade?
And honestly, why is the original artist not known?

I listened carefully, the "Are you ready or not, you ready or not" line is exactly the same, and part of the background tune is the same...but the rest is different. :/ IDK what to think.

Its not exactly the same, but i think since i can OBVIOUSLY hear similar parts throughout the song and think "Oh yeah that sounds like Ready Or Not by SHINee" then SM should at least dig into the situation and give a comment on it.

hmmmm well the are you ready or not part sounds the same...g dragon's heartbreaker got deemed as plagiarizing flo rida's song for much less so seeing how copyright laws are pretty strict... sm might have a lawsuit to file :/

This always happens to Shinee :c I'm going to take it positively. Guys~ Its because they're so awesome and popular on the scene psh that's why...

At any rate it sounds kinda different, but there IS A HUGE SIMILARITY in the chorus, I can't deny, it sounds almost exactly the same >.> So I can only smell a lawsuit smack on this one... :5 ouch

Just let SM deal with it I guess :/

wowwwwww, if GD's Heartbreaker was a plagarism of Flo Rida, this is down right taking the same track. Honestly never heard too much take from Flo Rida in GD's song, but HOLY CRAP even the tones kingston sings in (his voice fluctiations) during the same sections of song.... really curious to hear what SM has to say for this... hope it doesnt just get ignored!!

At first i was like dude these people are delusional, but then the are you ready or not part came on and then it all started to sound exactly like Shinee.. I mean it takes a lot to convince me and this is seriously the same.. Not saying he plagaized, because that word is thrown around alot but maybe he got permission.. Benefit of the doubt.

geez... it sounds almost exactly the samee. SM should sue!! but then again, all SM uses the $ for is to bribe ppl to not let JYJ on shows. so then again, idk what i want. SM shuld just hecka stop getting in JYJ's face and go promote their artist. shinee <333

So definitely the "are you ready or not" is exactly the same... also, the beat once it fully kicks in is basically a remake of shinee's especially in the chorus. and the melody for the first verse for sean kingstons is the exact same as the first verse of shinee's when onew starts singing. weird..... anyways good thing shinees version is better.. and they're hotter. lol

Everyone is jumping to SHINee's defense but I think this is the classic purchased right case. Remember when JongHyun wrote over Corbin Bleu's Deal With It? This is the same thing only the sides are reversed. Why would Sean Kingston plagiarize from SHINee anyways?

rather than getting angry that he plagiarized, why not be happy that shinee's that awesome that he had to copy that song, along with shinee gaining another shawol? :D
(though i'm still not happy with mr.chocolate milk dud over there)

Many of SHINee songs are remakes of another track. "A-Yo", "Forever or Never", "Juliette", "Y Si Fuera Ella", etc. SHINee's music is almost never original. SM might have done the same thing with "Ready or Not" and purchased the rights to it. Listening to Sean's song, I honestly don't think there's any grounds to sue. Plus I don't think SM can sue, it would be up to the original artist.

Both definitely sound alike, but I think I would be going to conclude that the person who made the song sold it to both of 'em. It's just hard to imagine that a famous dude like Sean would be plagiarizing like that. Plus, like both of 'em so totally going neutral with this.

Seen as we do not know the original, I believe shinee has will have ownership of this song, I think SM would have bought it. but we dont know.

Just because it is similar doesnt mean its plagirized. SM doesnt own the song...they buy permission to use it from the first artist. That is how a lot of kpop songs work. Pretty much 80% of the Lucifer album was remakes of English songs. Sometimes the artist sells the song to SEVERAL different companies and artists. It isnt Sean Kingston or SM´s fault. Shawols are being extremely rude while they comment on the Sean Kingston video. You need to realize the music industry can be very slimy and things like this happen because the owners of the song dont think the other artists are ever going to hear about each other. Please dont condone hate on Sean Kingston or any other artist that seems to have a similar song as a KPOP song.

SHINee Fighting! Just forget about all the other "famous" people that are copying your songs. They just want your fans, which will never happen. Sean is kinda on the bigger side. (: just saying. SHAWOL FOREVER. ([I get really mad when i see this blog thingy majig. LOL. Dumb sean. if thats his real name.])

its the exact same. at first i was like....nooooo. this isnt the same at all. then shinees ready or not started playing in my head...and then the chorus...ughh...its their song. theres nothing else to say. and its obvious people like sean would have a connection to kpop since will.i.am. was just hanging out with 2NE1.
