Beauty YouTuber PONY Named By Netizens In Controversial Multi-Dollar Lawsuit
1st generation Korean beauty YouTuber PONY has been recently implicated in a lawsuit over a no-show. Although initial reports did not name her, netizens have been calling her out, implicating her name in the debacle.
According to Korean news reports, the YouTuber had been commissioned to give a makeup lecture to 300 participants in Japan. She did not show up to the event, resulting in a lawsuit being launched against her, with penalties in the 100s of thousands of dollars.
The Japanese firm had requested around ₩330 million KRW (about $238,000 USD) from her company on April 1, 2024, to cover the penalty for breaking the contract. She had been supposed to attend the event in May 2023, but failed to show up. They had agreed on a fee of 5000000 yen ($32,300 USD) for the lecture and had already paid her half of it prior to the lecture. Right before the event, she had told the Japanese firm that she would not be attending.
The unilateral decision made by the YouTuber left the Japanese contractor in shock. According to them, she had simply gone AWOL after informing them that she had contracted COVID and would not be attending. When they had tried to reschedule for August the same year, she initially agreed but later cancelled her appearance 4 days before the event. Once again, she allegedly unilaterally gave an excuse.
According to reports, she has been postponing payment of the penalty since November 2023. The YouTuber’s agency has responded, claiming that the initial schedule was cancelled due to COVID. As for the second, the YouTuber was unable to attend due to personal reasons. They feel that the penalty fee was too much, and have been trying to communicate with the contractor.
The YouTuber is said to be of the first generation of beauty YouTuber and currently possesses millions of subscribers. Netizens have named PONY as the YouTuber, given her unique background. She is known to be the only first generational Korean beauty YouTuber.
