Yoo Jae Suk Makes History With His Grand Prize Victory At The 57th Baeksang Arts Awards
The 57th Baeksang Arts Awards concluded just a few hours ago and Yoo Jae Suk is making headlines for his big win.
Comedian and television personality, Yoo Jae Suk won the biggest award at the awards ceremony, taking home the Television Category Daesang (Grand Prize) for the evening. While the victory is not surprising for the veteran comedian, the Grand Prize for the Baeksang Arts Awards has previously gone to noteworthy actors, actresses or television series. In previous years, When the Camellia Blooms, actress Jun Ji Hyun, actor Hyun Bin and more have taken the honor.
The Baeksang Arts Awards is one of South Korea’s most prestigious awards ceremony and is oftentimes compared to The Academy Awards in the states. The ceremony celebrates those who show excellence in film, theater, and television. South Korea’s top actors, actresses and producers dress in their finest to celebrate their achievements with one another.
Yoo Jae Suk’s win is making headlines not because it is undeserved, but because this is not his first victory. The comedian previously won the Daesang back in 2013 for his participation and work on Infinite Challenge. This makes Yoo Jae Suk the first ever television personality to win the grand prize at the Baeksang Arts Awards two times.
He is only the third person in Baeksang Arts Awards history to receive the television category grand prize more than once. Veteran actresses Kim Hee Ae and Kim Hye Ja are the only other people to have won this award more than once.
What an incredible, but well-deserved feat for Yoo Jae Suk. Congratulations to him and his second Baeksang Arts Awards Daesang!
