YG Entertainment Founder, Yang Hyun Suk, Has Been Charged For Attempting To Cover Up His Artist’s Use Of Drugs

He has been charged.

It has been reported by Yonhap News that the prosecution has charged YG Entertainment‘s founder and ex-CEO, Yang Hyun Suk, with attempting to cover up the use of drugs with money.

Yang Hyun Suk was previously investigated under suspicions of attempting to cover up his artist’s drug controversy with money. He will soon be put on trial. The Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office announced on June 7, 2021, that he violated the Additional Punishment Laws on Specific Crimes due to him threatening retaliation in order to cover up the initial crime.

According to investigations, Yang Hyun Suk attempted to change a witness’s statement to the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission. The witness (and whistleblower) made a statement regarding drug purchase(s) made by his company artist, B.I, in 2016. The case has been under investigation since June 2020.

Correction: B.I’s case has also been since investigated following B.I admitting drug use in September 2019. While he tested negative for drugs in February 2020, the police pursued investigation based on the confession made by the artist himself. The case has since been filed with the prosecution, who is now charging B.I alongside Yang Hyun Suk. B.I will be put on trial for drug use.
