Elton John Reacts To BTS “Namechecking” Him On “Permission To Dance”
“It’s the thought of being young, when your heart’s just like a drum, beating louder with no way to guard it. When it all seems like it’s wrong, just sing along to Elton John, and to that feeling, we’re just getting started.”
So begins BTS‘s hit song, “Permission to Dance.” This all-English track is a beacon of hope that brings comfort to fans around the world. Both its lyrics and sound harken back to the music of the golden past while looking forward to a bright, new future.
Shortly after “Permission to Dance” dropped, Sir Elton John showed love for the song by participating in its dance challenge. He knows a smash hit when he hears one, having released dozens of his own, including “Rocket Man,” “Your Song,” “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” and “Tiny Dancer.”

How does he feel about being mentioned on BTS’s track? “It’s very flattering,” Elton John told The Official Big Top 40 radio show. “It was so cool to be namechecked by someone like BTS.”
Although Elton John started his career back in the 1960s, he has a love for new music and new music artists. They inspire him.
It does blow my mind but it’s because I love new, young music. That’s what inspires me. I love the old music, but the new music, when you hear something great by someone new, like Holly Humberstone or The Kid LAROI or someone like that, you just think ‘God, I wish I could have done something like that when I was that young.’
