Here’s What Happened To The Mysterious “Boom Chica” Demo That Fans Have Been Waiting For
Back in 2019, BBC released a documentary titled K-Pop Idols: Inside the Hit Factory where they explored the K-Pop industry from the on-stage idols to the studio-room writers. One scene showed SM Entertainment founder Lee Soo Man listening to a demo, and fans have wondered where that song went ever since!

Some fans guessed that it was intended for aespa who debuted late in 2020. However, none of the group’s songs thus far have used the demo!
Later, when NCT 127 revealed their tracklist for their Japanese EP Loveholic (2021), fans noticed a track titled “Chica Bom Bom.” While fans thought this was related to the elusive demo, the final result sounded completely different.
Fans of Red Velvet also hoped that the demo was meant for them. However, the song hasn’t show up on any of the group’s releases since then! It seemed like fans would never know what happened to the demo.
In a recent interview with ReacttotheK‘s channel creator Umu, songwriters Daniel “Obi” Klein and Charli Taft spoke about the demo and revealed what exactly happened to it.
When asked if they were allowed to talk about the song, Taft explained that they’re not not allowed to talk about it. She revealed that it’s actually one of her and Klein’s favorite tracks that they worked on during that songwriting camp!
They worked on it with KENZIE and Andreas Oberg, two other songwriters who frequently collaborate with SM Entertainment. The two writers explained that the “Boom Chica” song is a full song that they wrote with one group in mind!
The “Boom Chica” song, to set the record straight, it is a full song; it’s not just the snippet. And the song hopefully— we’re very hopeful that the song will be released in one of Red Velvet’s upcoming projects. That’s who we intended the song for.
— Charli Taft
Taft further explained that they know just as much about the song’s future as the fans do. The two writers trust in SM Entertainment’s “master plan“ regarding their releases. But they’re excited about the song and they believe it’s a great fit for Red Velvet!
