This Is The Only Way “Squid Game” Would Get A Season Two According To Its Director
K-Drama has found its international audience with the lethally entertaining Squid Game. The show has now crossed into “global hit” territory, having topped Netflix‘s charts worldwide, making it the streaming network’s most popular show.
With all eyes on the series, many are curious about what will happen to the show moving forward. In an interview with Variety, writer and director Hwang Dong Hyuk explained his plans for the series.
As many could imagine, the show was difficult to make, and Hwang Dong Hyuk is not eager to repeat the process.
In my earlier days, I’d drink half a bottle of soju to get the creative juices flowing. I can’t do that anymore… Writing (‘Squid Game’) was harder than normal for me as it was a series, not a film. It took me six months to write and rewrite the first two episodes. Then I consulted verbally with friends, and picked up clues for improvements through my own pitching and from their responses.

While some may worry that this spells the end for the beloved series, the exhausted director revealed that he’d be willing to return to the show… if the conditions were right.
I don’t have well-developed plans for ‘Squid Game 2.’ It is quite tiring just thinking about it. But if I were to do it, I would certainly not do it alone. I’d consider using a writers’ room and would want multiple experienced directors.

This may not happen as quickly as some may hope, as Hwang Dong Hyuk stated earlier in the interview that, “I’m not great at teamwork.”
Although he may be a bit tired out from working on an entire series, Hwang Dong Hyuk revealed that he is currently working on a screenplay for a film, so fans who enjoy his style may not be out of content yet.
While his success is incredible, we wish Hwang Dong Hyuk a relaxing time now that the series has wrapped and the world is enjoying it. To read more about the cast and crew of Squid Game, check out the article below:
