Here’s How IVE Reformed The Trending MIU MIU Low-Rise Skirt
This micro-mini broke the internet when it first launched as part of luxury house MIU MIU‘s S/S 2022 collection. The tiny skirt was one of the first of its kind to return to fashion post-2000s. Barely larger than the brown belt that came with it, the micro-mini came with pleats and a frayed hem with its pocket lining peeking out from underneath. The skirt, a low-rise, was deemed as one of the hardest silhouettes to pull off.
Girls’ Generation‘s YoonA rocked the very same outfit for the cover of ELLE. With her slim waist, she could pull off the high fashion look. While the low-rise micro-mini may be the “it” piece of the season, it was hard to move in due to the short length.
When girl group IVE decided to base one of their stage outfits on the iconic skirt and sweater look, their stylists had to take things into their own hands. She adopted the palette of grey, cornflower blue, and beige. She added in white and navy for variety and reformed the original skirt and sweater set to suit IVE.
Liz matched her thigh-high socks with the cornflower blue shirt. She paired it with a high-waist grey skirt and navy cropped sweater. Her belt added a much-needed pop of color. Rei adopted the look in a way closest to the original. The stylist added some grey pleated layers beneath the original skirt to make it longer. Pairing it with multi-strands of pearls updated the preppy look.
Wonyoung wore the original skirt lengthened with beige pleats. The stylist also cut the skirt even shorter and used it as a bustier, layered over a white shirt. We love the double-belt detail! Yujin stayed preppy-chic with a beige skirt in the same shade as the MIU MIU skirt but in a completely different cut. Hers was a pair of skorts with pleats around half of it.
We love how Gaeul was given a white cardigan as a cape to brighten the look. The use of multiple metallic charms on the front of the skirt made her look both girly and edgy. She sports the skirt in a grey color. Last but not least, Yiseo wears a long version of the MIU MIU skirt. Paired with a brown blazer, she looked very boarding school chic.
We love how IVE’s stylist reinterpreted the MIU MIU look in an idol-appropriate way! It would have been impossible for the girls to execute the choreography in the original outfit. Check out the girls performing “LOVE DIVE” in these iconic looks.
