To celebrate their 9th anniversary, BTS hosted their annual FESTA Dinner Party. During the dinner, they also happened to make an announcement that rocked the world of K-Pop.
Although later clarified by HYBE, the members seemed to reveal that they would be taking a group hiatus and each focus on releasing solo albums instead.
The word “hiatus” was used in the English subtitles, which ultimately caused the misunderstanding. Suga‘s words can also be translated as “off-season” or “off-period.” Suga states, “Anyways, we’ve now entered an off-season…” signifying the members are already in this phase.
Naturally, ARMYs were shocked by the subtitles, indicating a hiatus. Many even interpreted it to mean that BTS was disbanding.

Shortly after, HYBE‘s stock value dropped greatly. Since then, HYBE has released a statement clarifying the “hiatus.” CEO Park Jiwon has personally denied all rumors of BTS potentially disbanding and spoke up about the group’s future plans.

Now, maknae Jungkook himself has addressed the disbandment rumors.
The day after the announcement, Jungkook held a surprise live broadcast. Soon into it, he addressed the alleged disbandment.

Jungkook revealed that when he woke up, he saw “BTS hiatus” and “BTS disband” trending on social media. So, he wanted to clear things up.

The maknae denied all disbandment rumors. He emphasized that the group still has many group activities planned, including their variety show Run BTS!.
