BTS’s RM Addresses All “Hiatus” And “Disbandment” Rumors In Personal Statement
BTS‘s leader RM has addressed the recent rumors of “hiatus” and “disbandment” that have sent the world of K-Pop into a frenzy.
BTS recently hosted their annual FESTA Dinner Party to celebrate the group’s 9th anniversary. Yet, they also made a shocking announcement amidst the celebration.
The members seemed to announce that they would go on “hiatus.” They indicated that it would be a period in which all members would release solo albums.
On the official English subtitles, Suga was translated to claim that they were going on a “hiatus.” However, Suga’s words can also be translated as “off-season” or “off-period.” So, he could technically have been saying, “Anyways, we’ve now entered an off-season…” signifying the members are already in this phase.
Still, ARMYs were naturally shocked by the subtitles, and many (primarily the media) even interpreted it to mean that BTS was disbanding.

Yet, even during Festa Dinner Party, the members of BTS had attempted to make it clear that they were, in fact, not disbanding.

Nevertheless, HYBE‘s stock value dropped greatly as a result. Since then, HYBE made an official statement clarifying the “hiatus.” Even CEO Park Jiwon personally denied all rumors of BTS potentially disbanding, revealing some details about the group’s plans.

Now, BTS’s leader himself has addressed everything.
RM shared an extended statement via Weverse. He revealed that he had been repeatedly contacted ever since FESTA Dinner Party was released.
Following the latest broadcast, I received an unmatched number of calls and messages since I debuted.
— RM
He shared that many articles, particularly headlines, had blown the members’ statements out of proportion. Yet, he had anticipated their words to be taken out of context and framed negatively.
A lot of the screenshots of headlines and articles, which had been shared with me, used aggressive keywords taken out of context, like BTS ‘disbanding,’ ‘halting group activities,’ and ‘announcing hiatus.’ I fully expected this to happen. I was bracing myself for it, too. But it still left a bitter feeling in my heart.
It’s not that I wanted everyone to watch the entire broadcast of us being weepy and whiny before making any comments, though.

Nonetheless, it dishearted him to see it all happen as his and his members’ words were taken out of context. BTS’s FESTA Dinner Party is a tradition to celebrate their debut, but due to the milestone, it was an even more emotional experience. ARMYs understand that, but non-ARMYs would naturally view it all differently.
The broadcast had been—as evident from the fact that it was in the style of a non-regular ‘dinner party’ content and that it was aired on a meaningful date of June 13—solely and entirely dedicated to ARMYs who have supported us for the past nine years.
Sure, the non-ARMYs might think that the members and I were being overdramatic or that we were being ungrateful. But there is a whole decade of time between ARMYs and us when we shared anything and everything non-stop. What we have is special, without a doubt.
— RM
RM feels that the FESTA Dinner Party was a personal moment shared between BTS and ARMYs, and those would understand. Now, seeing others take his words, reactions, and such out of context, causing great misunderstanding, has caused him to want to hold back and be less vulnerable moving forward.
And this special ‘bond’ that we share is extremely difficult to define in words—although we’ve had to try explaining it a thousand times in all the interviews we’ve had. Anyway, the broadcast had been a totally honest, almost confession-like, moment that we wanted to share with ARMYs who formed and held on to that indescribable bond with us without asking us for anything in return.
As clear as it would have been to those who actually watched it, we explained throughout the whole broadcast that this is not the end for us—JUST like the title of the song ‘Yet To Come’ suggests.
Now that I see the screenshots of me bawling my eyes out going around the internet, and triggering a lot of misinterpretations, I’m starting to think I shouldn’t have been all that passionate. It seems to me that my courage to be completely transparent and honest always ends up causing unnecessary drama and misunderstandings.

He added that both in the broadcast and their newly released song “Yet To Come (The Most Beautiful Moment),” it is communicated that this is not the end for BTS.
RM reiterated that the members had been completely open and honest about everything, so no one needs to try to look for clues or read between the lines of “what they really meant.” They have no hidden messages.
What I would like to clarify is that we weren’t ‘beating around the bush’ about anything. There is nothing to ‘read between the lines,’ in that broadcast; we were being completely open and honest about everything we’ve been feeling. And in the process of being open and honest about our feelings, we ended up shedding some tears.
I have no doubt in my heart that ARMYs, who know us for who we are, will understand all of that with great generosity. We meant what we said in the broadcast as is, with no other message to it.
— RM
He added that both Jungkook and V have already addressed the negative rumors via live broadcast and Weverse, respectively. RM commended them as well.
As both Jungkook and Taehyung also explained so well, the members have been incredibly open to discussing the future of BTS whenever we got the chance. Yes, there have been rough patches and hard feelings for us, but we met when we were all so young. We’ve gone through a fair amount of trial and error—but that’s because we’ve been growing and maturing together through our teens and 20s.
— RM
While RM is worried that his statement could also be misinterpreted, he hopes the same that at least ARMY can understand. So, he also expressed his gratitude for them while giving them reassurance.
I feel like this post is going to seem dramatic as well… And I’m afraid it’ll only feed the trolls even more. But I wanted to at least briefly explain myself since I did say a lot of things on that broadcast. Thank you so much for having watched the broadcast and for sending us so much love, support, and positive energy from near and far. Going forward, I promise I’ll continue to be on my best behavior, as an individual and as a part of the team. Thank you.
