Actress Lee Young Ae Offers To Help With Sending Itaewon Victim Back Home To Russia
News that actress Lee Young Ae and other citizens wanting to help the father of Yuliana Pak (25), a Russian who died in the Itaewon tragedy, who is having difficulties raising the cost of transporting his daughter’s body, is touching the hearts of many. Yuliana Pak was a goryeoin, which refers to ethnic Koreans in Central Asia or Russia. She worked as a teacher for Russian goryeoin children and had planned to return to Russia one day to live with her mother.
The Korea Welfare Foundation for the Disabled announced that after Lee Young Ae heard the story of Pak, she wanted to “support Pak and their family as she is unable to return to her home country due to financial difficulties.” Previously, Pak’s father, a third-generation goryeoin, revealed that it would cost $5000 USD to transport his daughter to her hometown in Russia.
A total of 26 foreigners were killed in the Itaewon tragedy, and Asiana Airlines plans to provide round-trip air tickets to the bereaved families of 14 foreign nationals. It is reported that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is discussing relevant ministries, such as a plan to pay funeral expenses in advance for foreign victims. In cooperation with the Ministry of Justice, measures to simplify the entry procedure to Korea are being implemented for the convenience of the bereaved families.
