IVE’s Jang Wonyoung Describes Her 2023 Goal In One Emoji And It Showcases Her True Personality
IVE‘s Jang Wonyoung recently sat down with Elle Korea for an “emoji interview” where she acted out various emojis…
…and also answered a variety of unique questions by responding with the corresponding emoji. While some of the questions in the interview were lighthearted, such as her most used emoji, there was also a surprisingly deep question that gave fans more insight into Wonyoung’s real personality.

When asked to express her goals for 2023 using emojis, she chose a swan.
I’m going to spend [this year] beautifully and amazingly like a swan, but you know how swans work really hard underneath [the water]. I’m going to spend this year amazingly but also working hard to make it happen.

The metaphor of the swan represents someone who shows grace on the surface but, like the frantically paddling swan’s legs under the surface of the water, is working extremely hard where nobody can see. Wonyoung has already displayed this quality with her busy schedule and work ethic during all of her activities.

From commercial features to IVE’s activities and more, Wonyoung always displays a kind and polite demeanor but, behind the scenes, is working the hardest. In other words, she makes it all look so easy, just like a swan!
Even while unfortunately receiving unnecessary hate, she displays a confident and calm demeanor while continuing to do her job well. Many fans have come to her defense against haters who bash her for her success.

When reflecting back on 2022, Wonyoung also chose the white heart emoji to express her gratitude.
It’s true that I chose this for last year too. But I’ll choose this [swan] and my favorite heart of the heart emojis, the white emoji, because I am so grateful for last year.
