“Penthouse” Actor’s “Genderless Fashion” At New Show’s Press Conference Draws Mixed Reactions From Netizens
As Korean celebrities continue to rise in the global fashion world, new trends and styles have made their way to the Korean entertainment scene, and one of those trends is genderless fashion.
“Genderless fashion” is not a new concept in K-Pop; artists have been rocking genderless, or gender-neutral, fashion for years. Recently, genderless fashion has been on the rise with luxury designer labels, leading to an increase in the inclusive trend. Many Korean celebrities and K-Pop idols have rocked the look, from BTS‘s Jimin…
… to TXT‘s Yeonjun…
… and recently Eric Nam, who wore a chic gender-neutral outfit to the Thom Browne show during New York Fashion Week.
Penthouse actor Bong Tae Gyu recently shocked netizens when he joined the “genderless fashion” trend and received mixed reactions to his outfit.
Since his recurring role as Lee Kyu Jin during the hit show Penthouse’s three seasons, Bong Tae Gyu made a cameo on Sh**ting Stars and is set to appear in a new K-Drama, Pandora: Beneath The Paradise.
The new show airs on March 11, and the actors gathered for a press conference ahead of the premiere.
At the press conference, Bong Tae Gyu debuted his genderless fashion look that had fans debating if the style should be considered “genderless fashion.”
The talented actor wore a leather jacket over an oxford shirt and tie and paired it with matching leather short shorts.
To complete the look, he wore knee-high socks and ankle boots.
Netizens were divided on whether or not the look was truly “genderless fashion,” while many shared that, regardless, they felt Bong Tae Gyu pulled off the fashion-forward look.
- “??? I thought he was wearing a skirt but it was shorts… I’m disappointed”
- “It’s a shocking outfit but I don’t know if it’s genderless ㅋㅋㅋ”
- “Not sure about genderless but he’s got good taste as usual”
- “Are shorts considered genderless?ㅋㅋㅋㅋ”

- “I thought he wore a skirt or something but it’s shorts. Why is it genderless?”
- “It suits him well as a fashionista. Bong Tae Gyu pulls it off better than you’d think.”
