Asiana Airlines receives flight ban over 2013 crash
On November 14th, it was revealed to the press that South Korea’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s disciplinary committee had placed a 45-day flight ban to San Francisco, United States for all Asiana Airlines flights. The ban was placed due to last year’s fatal crash.
Last July, Asiana Airlines was involved in a tragic crash when the plane clipped the sea wall at San Francisco’s airport, causing the plane to slam into the runway. The crash left three dead and nearly 200 injured out of the 307 people that were on board.
In June 2014, the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board had completed its investigation and concluded that the cause of the crash was pilot error. As per the National Transportation Safety Board, the pilots had failed to keep the right speed and altitude and in response, tried to use the automatic throttle that they were not properly trained for.
In result, South Korea’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport placed a 45 day ban on all Asiana Airlines flights to and from San Francisco.
A representative from Asiana Airlines, on the other hand, is reported to have considered taking legal action against the ban, as numerous petitions from Korean American organisations asking for leniency were filed.
