LE SSERAFIM’s Chaewon Shares Her True Feelings About Receiving Criticism
LE SSERAFIM‘s Chaewon was first introduced to the public in 2018 when she made a fateful appearance on Produce 48, placing 10th overall in the show’s finale and earning herself a spot in IZ*ONE.
After IZ*ONE disbanded at the end of their contracts, Chaewon joined Source Music and debuted as the leader of the 4th-gen monster rookie group LE SSERAFIM.
Now, LE SSERAFIM has officially released their first full-length album after making their third comeback with “UNFORGIVEN” on May 1, 2023.
With each comeback, the group has continued to embrace their confident and self-assured concept, an ode to each member’s unique journey and the obstacles they’ve overcome to make their debut with LE SSERAFIM.
The members have found new confidence in each other, but it doesn’t mean they don’t continue to face challenges.
Leader Chaewon opened up during her interview with Weverse Magazine about life in the public eye and what she’s done to grow stronger in the face of criticism. She used the lessons she learned through criticism in the concept photos for UNFORGIVEN, visually representing that she gets stronger through every setback.
I once said that “my will gets stronger when I suffer a setback or someone criticizes me.” My determination gets stronger when someone says something mean.

Chaewon shared that she’s motivated by both positive and negative feedback. Whenever she receives criticism, she only wants to work harder to change the person’s mind.
I’m really motivated by the people who care about me, but the same goes for people who give me the hard truth. When I hear them speak, it makes me want to break their biases and try even harder. Of course it hurts my pride and upsets me when someone criticizes me, but I also think hearing those things is one way I can grow.

Now that LE SSERAFIM is a year into their debut, Chaewon revealed that fewer people give her advice, which made her realize she valued the critical feedback as an opportunity for growth.
Since our debut, I’m hearing fewer and fewer people giving me advice or telling me what I need to improve on. I realized while I’m grateful for the praises and the recognition, I’m also grateful for people who point out when I make a mistake and help me fix it. They help me grow, so I try to be appreciative.
