Passenger Who Opened Plane Doors Mid-Flight Faces Hefty Fine

The passenger is facing fines from the government and the airline.

The passenger who opened a plane door on an Asiana flight while still in the air is looking at a whopping fine.

On June 9, it was reported that the passenger was looking at a fine worth over ₩600 million KRW (about $463,000 USD). According to a result of an investigation, the passenger caused damages on the plane that is worth an estimated ₩640 million KRW (about $494,000 USD).

The plane is said to have been moved to Incheon on May 30 to be repaired. Aside from fines from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, And Transportation, the passenger is facing a direct fine from the airlines. According to a report, Asiana is considering taking legal action for payment. If including the damages suffered by others on board, the passenger is reportedly looking at a fine worth over ₩1.00 billion KRW (about $772,000 USD).

Previously, a passenger on board an Asiana Flight bound for Daegu, opened the plane’s door mid-flight. Luckily, there were no casualties, although several passengers fainted on board. According to reports, the passenger had planned on jumping out of the plane after complaining about waiting for the plane to land.

Shockingly, the passenger succeeded in getting off the plane, after it landed, undetected, but was detained after an airport employee found the passenger’s questions to be suspicious.
