A recent trend in K-Pop that not everyone is a fan of is the “criminally” short songs groups seem to release these days. NewJeans‘ recent release “Super Shy” clocked in at only 2:34, among many other tracks that don’t last three minutes.
While not exactly the same thing, a legendary K-Pop idol once went through their music video being banned due to issues with its length.
Park Ji Yoon made her musical debut in 1997 with the release of her album Skyblue Dream.
What many know the artist for is her sexy hit “Coming Of Age Ceremony,” released while she was under JYP Entertainment. Though the track is one of the most covered K-Pop songs, it also almost ruined Park Ji Yoon‘s life because of the overly sexual nature of the track.
After taking a six-year hiatus in 2003, the artist went in a different direction, releasing more music in line with the image she wished to express.
In addition to her full studio albums, the artist often released non-album singles, one of which is “Beep,” released in 2014. The music video was set in the ’70s and featured other stars like Yoo Jae Suk, Park Myung Soo, and Jay Park.
As fans know, Korea’s broadcast stations will frequently ban videos that do not fall under their guidelines. Usually, music videos will be banned for being too sexy, violent, or other ridiculous reasons.
After its release, KSB deemed “Beep” unfit for broadcast because of how long the end credits were.
To appropriately credit the cast and crew of the video, the credits for “Beep” lasted nearly an entire minute.
Luckily, Park Ji Yoon’s then agency, Mystic89, was able to edit the credits and have the video re-evaluated for airing.
Park Ji Yoon is still active as a musician and has not had any more videos deemed “too damn long!”
