“XO, Kitty” Stars Lee Sang Heon and Gia Kim Are Not Like Regular K-Siblings — According To Koreans
The sibling actors from Netflix‘s XO, Kitty recently went on an interview together and showed how “irregular” they are as siblings.
On July 30, Psick University released an episode of their famous talk show PSICK SHOW featuring actors Lee Sang Heon and Gia Kim from XO, Kitty.
After the two siblings got used to the hilarious energy of the three Psick University hosts, they talked about how they felt becoming famous overnight from the success of the Netflix show. Lee Sang Heon expressed his gratitude.
It was very surprising. We didn’t expect that much love from fans, and we’re just really grateful. I think at the moment, we’re just adapting to the popularity.
— Lee Sang Heon
He also mentioned how he gained a million followers around three to four days after the release of XO, Kitty, and currently, he has around 3 million followers.
Also, during the interview, the siblings clarified why they have different last names. Gia said she changed her name after getting saju, a type of birth-chart-based Asian fortune-telling. Because the two had different last names, the casting director didn’t know they were siblings they cast them.
When host Lee Yong Ju asked Gia and Sang Heon if they were close, they said they were—in fact, they were always together except for two moments.
The only times we were apart was university and me in [the army].
— Lee Sang Heon
Lee Yong Ju found their closeness fascinating because he shared that, generally, brothers and sisters in Korea are not close to one another. The three hosts joked that Korean brothers and sisters don’t even look at each other and “throw pillows” at each other. While Sang Heon tried to explain why they were close, the hosts noticed that he touched her arm while talking.
You know what? In Korea, they don’t really touch each other. They never touch each other!
— Lee Sang Heon
The hosts then showed a picture the siblings posted on Instagram that shocked them: a picture of the two hugging tightly. According to the PSICK SHOW hosts, this was very unlikely among Korean brother-sister siblings.
The hosts then showed a video of Sang Heon and Gia sitting in a car together, listening to music and singing. Lee Yong Ju said that typically when Korean brothers and sisters get in a car together, the older sister drives while, the younger brother lies down in the backseat. Kim Min Su shared that the two of them sitting in a car like that is so unlikely among Korean siblings that it’s “illegal.”
They also created some scenarios for the XO, Kitty siblings and asked if it was true for them. For example, Lee Yong Ju asked them if Gia picked out clothes for Lee Sang Heon if he was preparing for a blind date. Lee Sang Heon revealed that she does, which caused an uproar among the three hosts.
Gia then made the hosts yell out, “What?!” once more when she shared that she bought Sang Heon the shirt he is wearing now.
Sang Heon elaborated on how she helps him pick out clothes while he’s shopping.
Sometimes, I would ask her. I would Facetime her or Kakao call her.
— Lee Sang Heon
Host Jung Jae Hyung shared that a friend of his asked his older sister to help him pick out clothes, and she replied with, “Wtf, no,” making everyone laugh and showing the contrast between Korean siblings and the XO, Kitty siblings.
They continued to talk about how close they were siblings, and lastly, Lee Yong Ju asked them to hold each other hands and compliment one another. When the siblings started to do it without hesitation, they were shocked because they thought the siblings would think of punishment instead of agreeing to do it right away.
Gia and Sang Heon have a very sweet and loving brother-sister relationship with one another. They are very close, and the fact that they acted in the same Netflix show together is so adorable!
