Netizens Suspect Girls' Generation's Sunny Hasn't Renewed Her Contract With SM Entertainment

August 5, 2023 marks the 16th debut anniversary of legendary K-Pop girl group Girls’ Generation. Though they’ve only released one album, Forever 1, in the last six or so years, the group has yet to announce their disbandment and each of the members are pursuing their own careers in different fields.

In October 2017, members Tiffany, Sooyoung, and Seohyun ended up leaving SM Entertainment but remained as members of Girls’ Generation, leaving Taeyeon, Sunny, Yuri, Yoona, and Hyoyeon as the remaining members still with the label.

However, it seems that one more member might have ended her time with SM Entertainment due to a detail fans have noticed about Girls’ Generation’s 16th anniversary announcements.

To celebrate the date, special messages were shared with fans from Taeyeon, Hyoyeon, Yuri, and Yoona. However, Sunny was notably absent from the messages.

Sunny has been fairly quiet in recent times anyway, so it doesn’t come as too big of a surprise to her fans that she may have decided not to renew her contract with SM Entertainment.

Some fans also feel like she wasn’t able to be promoted as much as she deserved while she was at the label, since she never did get to have a proper solo career. Others, however, wonder if that’s how she preferred things, and think that she might be happy to live quietly now after her career as an idol.
