Yunjin competed in the idol survival program Produce 48 in 2018, ranking 26th overall before being eliminated from the show.

After her elimination, she returned to a seemingly ordinary life in New York and worked toward accepting that her idol dream may be over.

First, I was very much at peace. I was like, ‘It’s okay. It’s fine.’ And then, as time went [on], I was like, ‘No, it’s not fine. What am I going to do?’ Then I was angry. Then I was so sad. Then I was upset. Then I felt guilty at times. Then I felt sorry again. And then, in the end, I got myself together, and I was like, ‘I’m going to start a new life.

As she was grappling with her future direction, she received a fateful phone call from Source Music, who was looking for members for their new girl group, LE SSERAFIM.

Yunjin revealed that the company supported her in many ways after she became a trainee with them, and they fostered her songwriting talents before the public even knew Source Music was planning to debut LE SSERAFIM.

We hadn’t debuted yet, but I was very thankful that they saw something in me and gave me a push to continue developing my skills. I had made stuff in my bedroom, but never so that people could hear it. It was more like ‘I’m writing this just as therapy for myself.’

Yunjin shared that she was trained in writing for both herself and the group. Now, over a year into the group’s debut, Yunjin has multiple songwriting, production, and composition credits for the group’s music.

The LE SSERAFIM member hopes her music can become therapeutic for fans.

It might be too vulnerable, but at the same time I have this belief that there will be someone somewhere out there who will relate and get even the littlest bit, an ounce of reassurance that they’re not an outcast or they’re not someone who’s alone.
