Netizens Celebrate The 2nd Generation “OG Barbie Of K-Pop” After Her Recent Barbiecore Instagram Post
As the Barbie movie continues to sweep box offices and gain fans’ love worldwide, many K-Pop fans have joined in on the Barbie-fied trends, editing their favorite idols into Barbie characters.
Fan edits aren’t necessary for one idol as she’s already dressed the part of the iconic Barbie doll while touring the world with her former group 14 years ago. She was even awarded by Mattel, the company that manufactures Barbie dolls, in 2012.
Solo artist Jessica Jung, formerly a member of Girls’ Generation, performed a duet that’s remembered fondly by fans while on the group’s Girls’ Generation Asia Tour “Into the New World” in 2009 and 2010.
For her duet, she performed “Barbie Girl” with fellow SM Entertainment artists. Super Junior‘s Donghae and Heechul and SHINee‘s Key played the part of Ken on different nights, making it an unforgettable collaboration each time.
Just two years later, Jessica won the “2012 Barbie Award” at Mattel’s Barbie The Dream Closet campaign event in Seoul.
TVXQ‘s Yunho received the “Ken Award” that same year, and both were gifted a doll made in their likeness.
Recently, Jessica again embraced the Barbiecore aesthetic on Instagram, pairing iconic Barbie pink outfits together and modeling them while using an audio clip from the Greta Gerwig film.
Netizens couldn’t get over the return of the “OG K-Pop Barbie Queen,” celebrating Jessica’s return to the trendy aesthetic.
The comment section on Jessica’s recent post was quickly filled with fans praising her as the “Human Barbie.”
Jessica Jung also recently reunited with fellow 2nd generation idols, f(x)‘s Amber and former Miss A‘s Jia, while filming the Chinese idol survival program Sisters Who Make Waves 2023.
