ZEROBASEONE’s Debut Preparation After “Boys Planet” Finale Was Actually Intense AF

Here’s why.

ZEROBASEONE is the winning group to come out of Mnet‘s survival program Boys Planet. The finale aired on April 20, 2023 and they made their debut three months later with their album Youth in the Shade.

In a new interview with Fox 13, the members were asked about their preparation period prior to their debut. It turned out to be even more intense than one may expect.

How long after the announcement of the group did you start preparing for that?

Seok Matthew, a member who hails from Canada, took the helm and explained that the group began preparing for their first album right away.

They wasted no time getting everything together. In fact, the company already had their title track demo lined up from the get-go.

After the debut team was announced, it was the day after that…I’m pretty sure it’s the day after [when we] heard the title track.

— Seok Matthew

According to him, they had no time to relax: “We started preparing for our debut right away.”

They did not mind the lack of rest as it meant they were closer to their dreams of debuting. They wanted to give back to the fans who supported them since their time in Boys Planet.

We were also really happy about that, too. Because we’ve always wanted this. And we wanted to get it as soon as possible to show everyone who’s been waiting and supporting us.

— Seok Matthew

The result was a record breaking debut album that earned them over a million pre-orders, their first win after only eight days, and many other achievements.
