Park stands accused of acquiring and using a card stuck in a gas station’s card slot recently. The police reportedly examined security camera footage to confirm that the person who took the card was him.

According to South Korean law, anyone who tries to own a lost item illegally or attempts any misinterpretation of it instead of submitting it to the police faces charges. Though the case is still under investigation, Park could be charged with embezzlement of lost articles if he is found guilty.

Additionally, according to Article 70 of Korea’s Specialized Credit Financial Business Act, a person trying to sell or use lost or stolen credit or debit cards can face up to 7 years in prison or a fine of up to ₩50.0 million KRW (about $37,200 USD).

The actor offered his side of the story to the media, explaining that he took the card mistakenly. Park claimed that he doesn’t have his own card and he uses his wife’s card for purchases. So, he took the lost card, thinking it was his wife’s. It wasn’t until later that he found out it belonged to someone else.

Park added that after learning it wasn’t his wife’s card, he reported it to the police and returned all the money he spent from it. He claims to have cooperated with the investigation thoroughly.

The 55-year-old actor is best known for his role in the K-Drama Country Diaries. In 2021, Park garnered significant attention after appearing in a documentary program, where he revealed he was working at a pig farm with a daily wage of ₩10,000 KRW (about $7.44 USD). But he was embroiled in multiple controversies back then as well. Scandals involving real estate fraud, fraudulent production investments, and unpaid labor costs had pulled the plug on his entertainment career.
