It is a well-accepted fact that in South Korean society, a person’s physical beauty plays a significant role in deciding their quality of life. So, while reality TV shows based on plastic surgery transformations are not immune to criticism, they are also widely popular and are often considered a chance for a better life for many.
One such show is Let Me In, produced by the network tvN. The show’s concept is to find people with physical disfigurations and offer them corrective cosmetic surgery for a complete transformation.
In 2014, a participant on the show named Kim Hee Eun left the public in shock with the unbelievable results of her surgery. Kim was in her late 30s when she appeared on Let Me In and revealed that she had to hide her face in public due to a disfiguration caused by a condition she had since birth.
Kim’s right cheek had swollen blood vessels, which caused discoloration and formed a big birthmark in the area. The birthmark grew in size with age, deforming her upper lips and gums. Her right cheek was spotted with purplish pigmentation as well.
Her facial appearance was evidently affecting Kim Eun Hee’s confidence, disrupting her chance to live a normal life. She had trouble socializing or even finding a job.
After deciding to get plastic surgery, she underwent multiple consultations at a clinic. Eighty-five days after going under the knife, Kim was ready to show the world her new face, and it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that the entire studio was left stunned at her transformation. Hwang Shin Hye, the host of the show, commented that Kim looked just like actress Yoo In Na, while others chimed in, saying she looked like a newly debuted actress or a first-class flight attendant.
Kim’s plastic surgery results were probably one of the most satisfactory outcomes on the show, as it simply restored the beauty of her natural features without any exaggeration. Thanks to that, Kim’s story went viral in South Korea, earning her praise and best wishes from the public.
