Collabs Are Rapidly Emerging As The Winning Strategy For Global K-Pop Success
It will not be long before K-pop takes over the collaboration category at global pop music award ceremonies. Collaborations with overseas artists are rapidly emerging as the new trend for a winning strategy for K-Pop Global 2.0.
This win-win-based collaboration system is expected to accelerate further as it is a cross-section of K-Pop’s global status today and a “special move” that guarantees success. “Collaboration,” a hot keyword in global K-pop, can be found frequently, especially among top idols. TWICE and NCT DREAM are representative examples.

TWICE recently released a remix version of “Moonlight Sunrise” in collaboration with world-renowned DJ Jonas Blue. This song was released as an original English single earlier this year and successfully entered the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart for the second time in TWICE’s career.
In addition, TWICE plans to simultaneously release the remix album, The Remixes, worldwide, which contains a total of seven hit tracks. In fact, remixes that reconstruct the original song into a different genre or version, such as EDM, is something that cannot be produced without public response based on a strong fandom.

Meanwhile, NCT DREAM joined with pop star JVKE and released a remix version of “Broken Melodies,” a song in the third full-length album. While it was simultaneously released on major music sites on November 17, it is racing toward the top charts despite it being a remix version.

Before TWICE and NCT DREAM, collaborations with foreign pop artists peaked this year through BTS’s Jungkook. A prime example is his solo debut song, “Seven”, which also became a global mega-hit, featuring rapper Latto and David Guetta, who participated in the “Seven” remix version.
