A K-Pop Group’s “Ugly” Hairstyles Made Them Lose Fans
One aspect of K-Pop that fans hotly discuss and love is hairstyles. An idol appearing with a new haircut, color, or style can often go viral for how good or bad it looks.
Weird and eclectic styles were once common in K-Pop but have faded out of popularity. However, one K-Pop group’s hairstyles were so “bad” that they have remained a topic to this day, leading the idols involved to set the record straight recently.
Kim Junsu recently joined Kim Jaejoong on an episode of his YouTube series JaeFriends. The two idols have a long shared history and spent time discussing their past together.
In addition to being members of JYJ, Junsu and Jaejoong were part of the original DBSK(TVXQ) line-up before their lawsuits with SM Entertainment led to their departures.
While talking about their past experiences, the topic of their old hairstyles came up. The group’s members had several strange and “ugly” styles during their promotions of “Tri-Angle,” including Jaejoong’s own “Statue of Liberty” look.
Junsu and Jaejoong admitted that they were not forced into doing the styles but instead went along with them willingly.
Junsu then says he wishes to set the record straight about something. Apparently, at the time, it was said that the group hated their hairstyles so much that they cried, which both say is not true.
The idol believes this rumor was spread by a fan who wanted to protect the group, but as it turns out, they thought the hairstyles were something to be proud of!
Jaejoong then revealed that many of their fans became fans of SS501, another popular “rival” group at the time, after the ill-fated looks.
