Despite the recent controversies surrounding its leading actress, Park Min Young, tvN‘s drama Marry My Husband has achieved a significant milestone in its viewership ratings. The latest episode, aired on January 16, marked a new personal best for the show, defying expectations amid the ongoing scandal.
According to Nielsen Korea, Marry My Husband recorded an average nationwide viewership rating of 7.8 percent. This figure represents a 0.4 percent increase from the previous episode, setting a new high for the drama. The increase in ratings is particularly noteworthy, given the backdrop of Park Min Young’s personal troubles and the previous dip in the show’s viewership.
The drama’s recent success comes in the wake of Park Min Young’s involvement in a scandal. The actress has been at the center of media attention after Dispatch revealed that she lied about receiving money from her controversial ex-boyfriend, Kang Jong Hyun. Kang is accused of embezzling a staggering sum of over ₩60.0 billion KRW (about $45.7 million USD) from Bithumb and its affiliates.
Initially, this scandal seemed to cast a shadow over Marry My Husband, with a slight decrease in viewership noted from 7.6 percent to 7.4 percent in the episodes following the revelation. The scandal — coupled with the actress’s bold and unconventional fashion choice in the show, which left her shoulder and collarbone exposed in what was deemed an inappropriate office outfit — added fuel to the public scrutiny.
The recent surge in ratings, however, indicates that the show has managed to capture and retain the audience’s interest, possibly due to the compelling storyline, strong performances, or perhaps even the curiosity sparked by the controversy surrounding its lead actress.
