“I’m A Fool”—Why Chungha Felt Incredibly Naive During Her Hiatus

It wasn’t an easy time for the soloist.

Chungha recently sat down for an interview with Eric Nam in DIVE Studios‘ “Daebak Show.” She delved deeper into topics such as her long hiatus, what made her choose to come back to the K-Pop industry, and her feelings during this difficult time.

After parting from MNH Entertainment, she had no company backing her up. It was a brand new experience to go from following a strict schedule to being on her own.

I always belonged somewhere. I was always on schedule. But at a certain point, I really wanted to be away from this.

While she was interested to know what it’s like to be independent, it was also a difficult time for her. The soloist shared that she even felt like “a fool” during this time.

Sometimes I found myself a fool. I’m a fool actually. I believe everyone can relate themselves to this.

This feeling of inadequacy stemmed from having to do things by herself and being unable to do so.

Even when I wanted to go somewhere all of sudden, I had a manager all the time taking me to the places I want to go. But when I became alone, I didn’t know what to do. Even for very small things, I didn’t know how to do it.

She couldn’t help but feel helpless when she had to come to terms with her new situation.

The more I found out about myself, the more I found myself silly. I felt so [helpless.]

Thankfully, this period in Chungha’s life made her stronger and she now looks on the past with some fondness.

I think I was quite naive. When I was a bit vulnerable, I kind of wanted to go through it all wisely. I wanted to figure out that fragileness in me so I wanted to overcome this well in my way.
