Woman Dies After Freak Bungee Jumping Accident In South Korea Mall
In a tragic incident at the Starfield shopping complex in Anseong City, a woman lost her life in a bungee jumping accident. The event occurred in the late afternoon, around 4:20 PM, plunging the local community and the victim’s family into mourning.
The victim — identified only as Mrs. A — a woman in her 50s was participating in a bungee jumping activity at “Smob,” a sports experience facility housed on the third floor of the Starfield mall. What was supposed to be an adrenaline-filled but safe adventure turned fatal when Mrs. A fell approximately 8 meters (about 26 feet) onto the concrete floor below.
Initial reports indicate that safety protocols were ostensibly in place, with personnel stationed at both the top and bottom of the bungee apparatus. However, a critical failure in the safety equipment — specifically, an unsecured carabiner, which is a type of safety hook — led to this catastrophic event.
Despite wearing the requisite safety gear, the failure of this essential component resulted in Mrs. A suffering cardiac arrest following her fall. Immediate CPR efforts were administered, and she was swiftly transported to a nearby hospital. Tragically, she succumbed to her injuries approximately an hour after the accident.
The local police force has since launched a thorough investigation into the incident, focusing on the safety measures implemented by the bungee jumping facility. If found lacking, charges of manslaughter due to professional negligence could be brought against those responsible.
An official statement from the police highlighted the ongoing nature of the investigation, emphasizing that it is too early to provide detailed information.
