BABYMONSTER Can’t Escape BLACKPINK Comparisons With New “SHEESH” Teaser
Earlier today, YG Entertainment released the latest teaser for BABYMONSTER‘s upcoming comeback, “SHEESH”. Prior to this, a video teaser was shared for each of the group’s seven members, including the highly anticipated Ahyeon, who will finally be joining BABYMONSTER for this release.
As this is the label’s first girl group since BLACKPINK, comparisons have been made between the two girl groups for some time now. It’s arguable just how similar they really are to each other, apart from just debuting under the same company, but this latest teaser has netizens once again mentioning BLACKPINK in the discussion about BABYMONSTER.
The vocals really stand out in this teaser, and they allegedly belong to Ahyeon herself. But it’s the set and overall vibe of the teaser that really reminds netizens of the older girl group, with claims that YG Entertainment might even be recycling sets for their new artist.
The setting is being compared to certain scenes in BLACKPINK’s “Kill This Love” and “How You Like That” music videos, and even some of the members’ solo videos such as Lisa‘s “LALISA”.
But not everyone is seeing what appears to be a girl crush concept as a bad thing. These days, the most popular trends seem to be in the girly, Y2K, bubblegum aesthetics, so seeing a new girl group make a return to the once-popular girl crush concept might be, ironically, kind of refreshing.
Here’s how netizens have reacted to the teaser on a forum post about it.
The reactions on a Reddit post about the teaser are a bit more positive, though the comparisons are still there.
