ILLIT’s Stylists Come Under Fire For The Members’ “Busy” Performance Outfits
In the week since ILLIT first debuted, the girl group has been receiving a lot of positive responses from netizens for their fun music, pretty visuals, and overall charm. They’ve already broken some records as well, such as with first-week debut album sales, and they’re quickly on their way to becoming another popular rookie girl group!
But there is one aspect of their concept that some fans seem to be pretty divided on, and that has even been criticized by a fair number of people. It has nothing to do with the members themselves, but rather some of the outfits they’ve been styled in.
The style they seem to be going for with ILLIT is similar to what has been pretty trendy recently: Girly and Y2K, for the most part. However, some of their outfits seem more focused on layers and “true” old-school fashion, which some people have been comparing to early Disney channel-type outfits.
Some of the group’s performances lean more heavily towards this aesthetic than others, so it’s not all of ILLIT’s styling that is getting criticism, but mostly the ones that seem most “old-school Disney”-esque and are overly “busy”. Some fans also don’t like how their hair is being styled (or rather, the lack of styling it seems to have).
On a forum post discussing the group’s styling, a large number of the comments were critical of these outfits and felt like they weren’t successfully designed in a way that flatters the already pretty members.
Not all of the comments are critical, though. Some fans think that the outfits are refreshing to see on young rookies, and that these outfits pay a more “accurate” tribute to early 2000s fashion.
How do you feel about ILLIT’s styling?
