Weverse’s New Joint Livestream Feature Sparks Divided Reactions

It’s turned into a fan war.

The HYBE community platform Weverse is reportedly adding a new feature, but netizens have mixed feelings about it for an unexpected reason.

Currently, Weverse has a feature for its artists to hold live broadcasts via its platform. At this time, it allows viewers, including other artists, to comment during the live broadcast, and the host can view these comments. However, unlike Instagram Live or TikTok Live, another artist cannot join the live broadcast for a joint live broadcast.

Reportedly, Weverse is changing that. According to reports, Weverse announced in a Tokyo press briefing that a joint livestream option is being added to the platform as suggested by ENHYPEN leader Jungwon.

Listening to the voices of the artists, ENHYPEN’s leader JUNGWON’s request of wanting to do joint livestreams with other artists has been confirmed to happen. The joint livestream feature will translate Korean livestreams into 12 languages, and translate Japanese livestreams into 4 languages in real time. It is scheduled to be released within the first half of this year.

Netizens were excited to hear about the upcoming feature. Many praised Jungwon for the idea, and K-Pop fans imagined their favorite idols doing joint livestreams with each other.

Yet, some criticized both the reports for crediting Jungwon for the idea and Weverse for implementing the feature only after another idol made the recommendation. Many pointed out that BTS‘s V had suggested the same feature since 2022, and he continually made his wish known.

Previously, V would even switch to Instagram Live since Weverse lacked the option for him to go live with his members. ARMYs emphasized they weren’t criticizing Jungwon but the reports and Weverse.

It’s not just V who looked for alternatives to do joint live broadcasts until Weverse implemented the feature. TXT‘s Soobin and SEVENTEEN‘s Seungkwan held a live broadcast together from the HYBE building.

ENGENEs jumped to Jungwon’s defense. They resurfaced all the times he talked about wanting a group communication feature on Weverse Live.

They added that Jungwon went the extra mile, too. He didn’t just talk about it to his fans during a live broadcast. Jungwon reportedly made a formal request directly to Weverse.

Regardless of who originated the idea, a joint livestream feature is an excellent addition to Weverse that every group can benefit from.
