Music Critic Attacks ILLIT And LE SSERAFIM Renewing Backlash Over Live Performances
A music critic’s viral tweets about LE SSERAFIM and ILLIT have sparked renewed criticism.
On April 18, a music critic’s tweets about LE SSERAFIM’s Coachella performance went viral. In his tweet, the critic also criticizes ILLIT’s poor live encore performance.

It seems that since the weekend, the biggest issue in music are live performances. Several media outlets asked about LE SSERAFIM and ILLIT’s live performances. They wanted to know what I thought was the issue. First, LE SSERAFIM’s Coachella stage was poor. Their live performance was horrible and anxiety-inducing. It seemed the stage was too big for them.
ILLIT’s encore was the same. It was embarrassing. I know that it is difficult to sing live while dancing. But at the very least, members should be able to perform their parts. It isn’t like they were singing someone else’s song. Although their condition may have varied that day, they shouldn’t be proud if they can’t sing their own parts confidently.

Netizens agreed with the critic and alleged the group had lied to fans by hiding behind the AR, or background vocals, during performances.
- “I hate them even more because they were caught committing fraud by hiding behind the AR.”
- “In a barely 3-minute song, their parts are maybe 30 seconds long. Shouldn’t they be embarrassed to call themselves singers if they can’t even sing for 30 seconds? Why try to be a singer if you can’t even do that? I wonder if music was really what drew them to become singers. Usually, if you’re that bad, you wouldn’t want to be a singer.”
- “Sakura, Kazuha, and Eunchae seem overwhelmed by their parts, which are 3-4 seconds long.”
- “I agree. They should be able to perform their own parts, at the very least. Especially since we aren’t asking LE SSERAFIM to be good, we know they are bad, so we are asking for them to just be average.”
- “I wonder how they are able to do concerts. If they were my biases, I would never go to their concerts. In fact, they couldn’t be my bias.”
- “They rely on the sound engineers because they are so good. It’s also the label’s fault for not caring about their vocals and abilities to sing live and for allowing this to happen. The ones who improve are the ones that try hard despite the label not investing in lessons.”
- “What kind of singer can’t sing a 30-second part? It’s not like we’re asking them to perform all 3 minutes of the song.”
- “How are they going to hold concerts when they can’t even perform their parts?”
