Kim Woojin’s Album Sales Fail To Impress Netizens Despite Debuting Under SM Entertainment Subsidiary
In March 2024, it was discovered that Kim Woojin would debut under Kustomade — a new sub-label of the powerhouse SM Entertainment.
Following his departure from Stray Kids in late 2019, Kim Woojin went through a tumultuous period, starting with allegations that he had sexually assaulted someone at a bar in Seoul.
An anonymous X user claimed to have met Woojin during the coronavirus outbreak, where he allegedly tried to touch them inappropriately without their consent, despite repeated protests.
Former Stray Kids’ Woojin Accused Of Sexual Assault, Personally Denies Accusations
Woojin denied these claims, with his company at the time sharing a documentary to help aid in his defense. Despite finding the evidence believable, many felt the way the documentary handled the topic of sexual assault was disrespectful and distasteful.
Woojin would continue working, releasing music, going on a world tour, and even appearing in HBO Max’s romance fantasy series My Magic Closet, becoming the first Korean actor to be cast in the global project.
Many were anticipating his new start under the label, hoping for a successful start under the new company.
On April 22, his album was released, featuring the title track “I Like The Way.”
On his first day of sales, according to Hanteo, Kim Woojin sold 853 copies of his album and is currently at 2,646 entering the fourth day. These numbers are higher than his previous release.
However, many netizens were not impressed with these results, showing the effects of the documentary are still lingering.
