LE SSERAFIM Slammed For Expressing “Feeling Pressure To Perform Well”
A large part of the criticism that LE SSERAFIM has been receiving lately comes directly from their disappointing vocal performances during encore stages and at Coachella. However, some of the disappointment has also been directed towards the statements that the members have shared in response to the criticism, such as Sakura‘s reaction to comments about their Coachella performance.
We, who debuted less than two years ago and have only toured once, stood proudly on the Coachella stage, enjoyed ourselves, and gave our all to this performance.

And now, a statement made by Eunchae during the group’s Weverse magazine interview for their EASY album has been getting renewed interest and criticism in the wake of all of the scrutiny they’ve been receiving.
In the statement, Eunchae shares how they feel pressure to perform well because they come from a company as huge and successful as HYBE Labels. She adds that she also feels like the results don’t always “match up” to their hard work, which can be frustrating.
(Translation) Hong Eunchae: “We’re literally a team that came out of HYBE, and we’re working in a good environment, with good staff, so we feel like we should perform really well, and sometimes it’s overwhelming, because people only see the finished product, and if it’s not good, I feel guilty, and it’s hard to keep up. So I think the message in ‘EASY’ is the one I’m most confident about and the one I love the most, because it’s something I’ve wanted to say for a while, and I think there were a lot of times when my team worked hard and the results didn’t match up to the hard work we put in, and that makes me sad and frustrated, but now I’m thinking, ‘It’ll be cool if it works out later.’ So I’m trying to tell myself, ‘It’s no fun if it’s good from the beginning!'” (laughs)
But netizens weren’t having it. Many comments pointed out how every K-Pop idol feels pressure just due to the nature of the industry, and that those from small labels likely feel extra stressed because their future depends so much on whether or not they’re successful. Coming from a big label such as HYBE gives artists an automatic boost just due to the nature of being under a well-known name. People also brought up how the group has been seeing great results in terms of album sales, streams, charting, etc. despite their “disappointing” skills that don’t reflect the hard work they say they go through.
Some of the comments were pretty brutal, but netizens seemed to be in agreement with most of the criticism being given.
