BBC recently released their documentary on the “Burning Sun” scandal.

There were several men who were named in the police report related to this case, the most famous being BIGBANG‘s Seungri, Jung Joon Yoon, and Choi Jong Hoon. There were also a handful of others who were part of their group, committing atrocious crimes alongside them.

One of them was the older brother of Girls’ Generation‘s Yuri, Kwon Hyuk Jun.

In the BBC documentary, it was revealed that he was part of the group who visited a ski resort with Choi Jong Hoon’s female friends. They filmed molka (hidden cameras) with the unconscious women.

They shared drinks together and the women say that not long after the drinks, they lost almost all their memory. In that situation, several illegally filmed items emerged. One was a photo taken from the first floor looking down onto the ground floor.

The group of men also filmed another video with Kwon Hyuk Jun raping one of the women.

Another was a video of a man and woman having sex filmed from behind, through an open door, like it was a joke. [The images appear to show the rape of unconscious women by another chat group member, a friend of Jung and Choi]. I had enough suspicion the women were completely unaware.

Following his arrest, Kwon Hyuk Jun initially claimed that he was only involved in the chat room for official business dealings, having been a partner of Seungri’s for their pub, Mildang Pocha. He later made a public apology in the hopes that his case would not reflect on his family members.

Everything is my fault, my negligence, I feel the weight of my crimes every day. I did not intend to cause harm by using force or violence.

I will live my life with the fact that my fiancee, my family, my sister who is a public figure, have to split the blame for my crimes and that I have inflicted permanent damage that I can’t wash away.

In 2019, he, Jung Joon YoungChoi Jonghoon, Burning Sun employee “Kim,” and former entertainment agency employee “Heo” were accused of gang rape and filming and distribution of sex videos. Prosecution requested for Kwon Hyuk Jun to serve 10 years in prison, the longest of the five men in the joint trial.

In November of the same year, Kwon Hyuk Jun was found guilty of participating in the sexual assault and illegal chatroom activities. His sentence was reduced from the requested 10 years to just four years in prison.

He appealed the decision to the Seoul High Court, yet his plea was denied, resulting in the retention of his four-year sentence. He is currently in prison and will be released in four months.

In 2019, he legally changed his name from Kwon Hyuk Jun to Kwon Yeon Oh.
