3rd-Gen Female Idol Shocks Fans By Revealing She’s A “Nepo Baby”
If your dad was a seasoned 29-year veteran in the Korean Entertainment industry and you were an aspiring K-Pop idol, would you use your dad’s influence to make sure you debut in a good group? Well, Cosmic Girls‘ Soobin decided not to.
The star — who has enjoyed a lengthy 9-year career until now — shocked fans when she revealed she’s actually a nepotism baby in a recent variety show appearance. In the upcoming episode of Dad And Me, Soobin shared that her dad is currently head of the management division at SM C&C. Also known as SM Culture & Contents, the company is an advertising, production, travel, and talent company under SM Studios, a wholly-owned subsidiary of SM Entertainment.
Being head of management, Soobin’s father manages some of the most popular Korean entertainment stars like Kang Ho Dong, Jeon Hyun Moo, Kim Jun Hyun, and Seo Jang Hoon.
Interestingly enough, Soobin’s father was a professional traditional Korean wrestler before joining the entertainment industry. He decided to join the industry nearly 29 years ago alongside his junior and well-known variety star, Kang Ho Dong.
Soobin’s father’s significant presence in the Korean entertainment scene has left Cosmic Girls’ fans wondering why the idol didn’t use his connections throughout her career. In fact, this is the first time Soobin has mentioned his background, nine years after debuting. As an important figure at SM Entertainment, she could’ve potentially joined one of the company’s groups!
However, fans are also thankful she didn’t because, that way, she ended up being a Cosmic Girls member. Despite all the obstacles they’ve gone through together, the group remains one of the most loved in the industry.

During the show’s episode, Soobin’s enormous house was also revealed. The size of the property has shocked and left fans in awe, mostly due to Soobin’s decision to live in a much, much smaller apartment with the 12 other Cosmic Girls’ members when she could have been enjoying a lavish life in her mansion.
