Ex-Survival Show Contestant Spills On Just How Isolated The Contestants Were During Filming
In an interview with Grazy Grace, former Girls Planet 999 contestant Tammy Wu talked about her experience as a survival show contestant.
She was an individual trainee who was part of the C-Group filled with Chinese idol hopefuls.
During the interview, she talked about the realities of being in a survival competition. One difficulty was that every single girl was almost completely cut off from the outside world. They had no access to their phones and were only given the opportunity to listen to the songs they were performing.
I know in some shows they say they were able to leave the filming and only come back on filming days but because we were also in the middle of the pandemic we were not able to go anywhere. We just had an iPad with one audio file of whatever we were performing and one video in the gallery. We had one MP3 too where we could listen to music but it would be only be whatever you were performing.

They only had a single one-month break in their half year of filming to leave the premises and live normally. After they came back, they trainees once again surrendered their phones to the crew. Even when they were about to settle in for the night after practice, they could not listen to any other music. They also had no access to social media of any kind.
We had our phones taken away when we were in the dorms…no [Instagram], no nothing.

Tammy believed this strict restriction was imposed on them to stop potential leaks from happening.
I think they didn’t want us to leak anything and they didn’t want us to know things in advance.
