In March 2024, eight members of the K-Pop boy group NINE.i shared news of a legal dispute.

NINE.i debuted as a ten-member group in 2022 under FirstOne Entertainment, making one comeback before it was announced that three members, Seowon, Jiho, and Winnie, would go on hiatus to participate in Boys Planet. Winnie would return to a hiatus due to a shoulder injury, ending with his departure from the group in January 2024.

On March 14, 2024 all members except Eden announced through Bubble that they were in a legal dispute with the company.  Since then, the group has not updated their official social media accounts, as their legal issue with the company was likely addressed.

Now, months later, NINE.i have finally shared an update with fans.

On June 12, the NINE.i social media accounts were updated with Korean, Japanese, and English messages. The message assured fans that the group were preparing for a new start as nine members and that the situation had been resolved, though they could not give details

Hello, we’re NINE.i

First of all, we would like to say sorry to i.ENIN, who must have been worried.

All 9 members of NINE.i are preparing for the new start together as NINE.i. We are currently discussing the direction of future activities. We will announce it to i.ENIN soon.

We can’t explain all the situations, but it’s been resolved well.

Nothing has been decided on the direction yet, so please wait for the official notice and avoid reckless speculation.

Many were scared by the sudden message after months, and the ambiguous language used has not helped soothe some fans fears.

In the minds many K-Pop fans, the successful ending of a legal dispute between idols and their company is the star’s departure, and these messages do not give a clear indication of this.

At the same time, many fans are excited for the group’s return and hopeful that the resolution was truly successful.
