Couple Playing Tennis Inside Incheon Airport Sparks Immense Public Outcry
In an absurd turn of events, a couple was caught playing tennis at Incheon Airport, drawing mass backlash from the Korean public online.
The video of the incident was posted on the online community Bobaedream on June 13. It showed the two rallying a tennis ball between them with rackets near an entrance at the airport. The post gained over 120,000 views in just one day, with angry netizens criticizing the couple’s actions as “inconsiderable” and lacking “public etiquette.”
The video also provoked scathing criticism of the airport’s lack of response to this incident. Many called out airport security for not taking proper action to stop the couple.
Here are some of the comments left by netizens under a post about this incident:
- “In the case of tennis, aren’t the balls very hard? What are they going to do if someone gets hurt?”
- “Seeing how they didn’t even think of how it could go wrong, they must lack intelligence.”
- “Huh??”
- “Are we sure they’re not crazy?”
- “I don’t understand how one would even think of playing tennis there…Did they just go,’Hey, we’re bored waiting. Should we play tennis a bit?’ and whip out their rackets?”
- “I guess they would have come to their senses after breaking a glass window behind, LOL.”
- “This is beyond common sense. Are they insane?”
- “Are these people unwell?”
- “Do both of them have intelligence problems?”
- “Are they crazy?”
After the widespread public outcry, the International Airport Police Corps released a statement saying that the responsibility for preventing such incidents lies primarily with the Incheon International Airport Corp, which oversees the main operations at the airport. Had the airport officials reported the incident, police would have intervened. The authorities, however, argued that the police have the primary authority to maintain order at the airport.
According to police officials, an investigation is underway to identify the couple. They are also discussing how to handle the situation once the individuals are identified.
