“Hospital Playlist” Spin-Off “Resident Playbook” Faces Danger Of Being Scrapped Due To Ongoing Medical Strikes
Hit medical drama Hospital Playlist‘s spin-off Resident Playbook was scheduled to air in 2024, but it seems like it may be scrapped. Many fans were looking forward to the drama in particular as it follows hot on the tails of CJ ENM‘s Queen of Tears. Due to the current strike from medical professionals in South Korea, the project may have to be postponed, or scrapped for good.
Originally scheduled for July 2024, the show is facing another delay in broadcast due to the ongoing strikes by medical professionals. Reportedly, it might be hard for the show to air at all, as the producers fear criticism that they are romanticizing the lives of medical staff. The show was already postponed once. It was originally slated to air in May 2024, following Queen of Tears. It was replaced by The Midnight Romance In Hagwon.
Currently, the Korean Medical Association declared that they would be all taking leaves of absence on June 18, 2024. Many large hospitals will face vacancies in staff as such, leading to severely ill patients expressing their anger and frustration, claiming that they are “being driven to death” by the doctors. Professors at Seoul National University Hospital and Medical School have also decided to take an indefinite leave of absence from June 17, excluding essential departments such as emergency rooms and the ICU. Five other major hospitals have also decided to participate in the strike and are reportedly discussing their leaves.
Resident Playbook stars Go Youn Jung, Shin Shi A, Kang You Seok, Han Ye Ji, and Jung Joon Won in the main roles.
