Stray Kids’ Upcoming Comeback Might Actually Be A “Deadpool & Wolverine” OST

Fans are hopeful!

Ever since Stray KidsDeadpool-inspired performance on Mnet‘s Kingdom: Legendary War, Ryan Reynolds, who plays the character of Deadpool, became a STAY.

Since then, Ryan Reynolds and Stray Kids’ leader Bang Chan have developed a friendship especially. They send each other autographed gifts and frequently praise each other in interviews.

Naturally, fans became hopeful that this friendship would also develop into a business relationship and that Stray Kids might somehow feature in the upcoming Deadpool sequel.

In March 2022, STAYs noticed Ryan Reynolds had liked a tweet in which a STAY proposed Stray Kids do an OST for a Marvel film, specifically Deadpool. Knowing Ryan is also one of the producers, it seemed probable that this dream could be a reality.

In December of that year, speculation officially began that Stray Kids would be featured in Deadpool 3 (also known as Deadpool & Wolverine) after the Miss Minutes X (formerly Twitter) account asked for music recommendations, specifically songs by Stray Kids.

For context, it’s been rumored that Deadpool & Wolverine will connect to Marvel’s Loki series. In Loki, the title character is held by an organization called the Time Variance Authority (also known as TVA), which is aided by a character called Miss Minutes. This was seemingly confirmed when Miss Minutes and Ryan Reynolds interacted on X (formerly Twitter).

Now, it’s 2024, and STAYs are speculating again that Stray Kids have an OST in Deadpool & Wolverine, and it’s their latest comeback.

On June 19 at midnight KST, Stray Kids dropped a cinematic trailer for their highly-anticipated July 19 comeback. In the trailer, the members opened a fortune cookie that read, “Your luck no longer lasts from now on.” So, we saw the members continually end up in unlucky situations until they opened another lucky fortune cookie, returning their luck and success.

The end of the trailer showed three logos: one for Stray Kids, one for “ATE,” and another for “Chk Chk Boom.” STAYs questioned what was what. Many were confused about what “Chk Chk Boom” is. It’s technically the sound of a gun cocking, originating from an old Aussie meme. Considering Felix and Bang Chan are both Australian, it’s likely a reference to this.

Most believe “Chk Chk Boom” will be the title track, and “ATE” is the album name.

Despite the possible meme origins of “Chk Chk Boom,” some pointed out its similarities to Stray Kids’ Deadpool-inspired Kingdom performance.

Many STAYs are hoping that Stray Kids’ upcoming comeback is connected to the forthcoming Deadpool & Wolverine. @stayhoooi shared a now-viral thread promoting this theory. Deadpool & Wolverine releases on July 26, which is shortly after Stray Kids’ comeback on July 19.

Many also felt that “Chk Chk Boom” had a very Deadpool-esque sound to the phrase.

The imagery of Stray Kids’ comeback is also very reminiscent of Deadpool, including the same color schemes. Additionally, Ryan Reynolds is continually promoting Stray Kids.

Some also pointed out that the end of the comeback trailer features a post-credit scene, much like a Marvel film. Felix was featured with a dog whom he referred to as “Lucky dog.” Even before that, Seungmin‘s pizza was eaten by a dog. In the Marvel universe, a character known as “Lucky the Pizza Dog” was previously featured in the Hawkeye series. He is a one-eyed golden retriever that Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) adopted.

Deadpool & Wolverine is also confirmed to feature Wolverine, portrayed by Hugh Jackman. Shortly after Bang Chan and Ryan Reynolds connected, Hugh Jackman also showed his support for his fellow Aussies in Stray Kids.
