Alleged Leakers Of Actor Lee Sun Kyun’s Drug Case Sent To Prosecution
Six months after actor Lee Sun Kyun’s shocking demise, the police officer and prosecution investigator accused of leaking his case’s information to the media have been sent to the prosecution.
According to reports, on July 8, KST, the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency announced that police officer “A” from the Incheon Police Agency and investigator “B” from the Incheon District Prosecutor’s Office had been sent to the prosecution on charges of leaking official investigation information and violating the Personal Information Protection Act.
In addition, four journalists who received the leaked information directly or indirectly have also been sent to prosecution without detention on charges of violating the Personal Information Protection Act.
Police officer “A” stands accused of leaking a report containing the investigation details of Lee Sun Kyun’s drug case to journalists. The leaked report is said to have been written by Incheon Police Agency’s Drug Crime Investigation Unit on October 18, 2023. It contained personal details such as names, criminal records, identities, and occupations of the individuals involved in the drug case. “A” reportedly worked in a department unrelated to drug crime investigations. Three different journalists have been confirmed to have received this leak through “A,” both directly and indirectly.
Investigator “B,” on the other hand, is accused of tipping off a local newspaper journalist in the Gyeonggi area that Lee Sun Kyun was under police investigation. On October 19, 2023, the newspaper ran an exclusive report on the case accordingly.
The individuals came under investigation following the tragic death of Lee Sun Kyun last year, following which the Korean film fraternity issued strong statements demanding a probe into the unlawful revelation of Lee’s case details to the media. You can read more about it here.
