BTS’s Jin Unveils The Real Struggles Behind His “FESTA” Performance

BTS member Jin was discharged from the military only a month ago, on June 12, KST. Astonishingly, the singer went back to his main job the very next day and celebrated his group’s debut anniversary by pulling off the 2024 FESTA with fans all alone!

In his recent Weverse Magazine interview, the singer talked about getting back on stage only a day after his discharge and how disorienting the shift was. Jin admitted that he purposefully blocked out the cheers from ARMYs because he was afraid he would end up crying if he let go of his emotions.

The fans might not want to hear this, but I tried really hard not to let the feeling sink in. I mean, it was the very next day after I got out of the army…I thought I might cry if I started singing and got too worked up and started getting all emotional. I had to put on a good show for the fans, so I couldn’t let myself get choked up to the point I couldn’t sing. So I purposely cranked up the volume on my in-ears to try and drown out the emotions, and closed my eyes for the first song.

In order to keep his nerves in control, Jin mentioned that he also tried out a traditional Korean medicinal pill called Cheongsimhwan. “I actually did a cheongsimhwan test run specifically for the sake of that performance,” he admitted, explaining the process in detail next.

The singer mentioned that he took the pill way before his discharge to test in advance if it was really effective without any side effects on his throat. Unfortunately, cheongsimhwan turned out to be an unfit remedy for his purposes.

I tried taking a cheongsimhwan when I was going back on base after taking some leave time. I wanted to see in advance whether taking it would dry out my throat or not, and how much it could stop my heart pounding. It ended up making my throat really dry, though, and I worried my voice might crack when I went to sing…

So, Jin looked for something else to replace the cheongsimhwan and took that instead on the FESTA day. “My heart was still pounding like crazy, though,” he confessed.
