Idols With Unusual Eating Habits Elicit Mixed Responses From Netizens

Which side are you on?

In the past, some K-Pop idols have been criticized for the strange or unique ways they eat on camera, such as the members of IVE eating hamburgers with a fork.

Most recently, netizens debate just how “strange” or “normal” it is to show picky eating habits in public. For example, Red Velvet‘s Seulgi tosses out the green onion from her steamed egg.

Similarly, SEVENTEEN‘s Jeonghan removed all the vegetables from the meat to eat it directly.

(G)I-DLE‘s Soyeon revealed she hasn’t eaten any vegetables in 20 years — including kimchi!

TWS‘s Dohoon removed all of the lettuce and pickles from his burger. Netizens had mixed reactions to idols who have a strong aversion for vegetables as adults.

Some believed that this level of picky eating in the company of others seems juvenile, while others can’t help but relate.

  • “I don’t really like picky eaters..”
  • “I’ve never seen someone like that in my life…”
  • “About half of the options could be understandable, but the other half seems unusual…”
  • “It’s really amazing/dumnfounding”
  • “There are no people who don’t have any food aversions. Everyone has at least one food they avoid, and I think those people aren’t much different.”
  • “Can’t you just eat what you want… It’s not like they’re forcing others to eat or not eat anythingㅠ”
  • “Dohoon is just like me..”
  • “Why is it a problem… I’m a picky eater too. I get sick if I eat oysters or clams, and I can’t eat cucumbers or watermelons. Why is that a bad thing?”
  • “I eat salads and most raw vegetables well, but I don’t like the flakes in instant noodles, steamed eggs with scallions, or pickles in sandwiches, so I get it,,,”
