Actor Lee Sun Kyun’s Blackmailer Shockingly Brings Baby To Court Every Trial
The woman accused of blackmailing actor Lee Sun Kyun has been repeatedly seen bringing her young child to court proceedings.
The unusual behavior has drawn significant public criticism and even child abuse charges — which she has now been cleared of.
The woman (identified as Park) was initially charged with extorting money from Lee. Despite the severity of the charges, Park has been bringing her one-year-old child to every court appearance.
Park’s legal troubles began last October when she was indicted for extorting ₩50.0 million KRW (about $36,000 USD) from Lee Sun Kyun.
She had previously demanded ₩100 million KRW (about $72,100 USD) and threatened to expose sensitive information. Park had met a woman named Kim in prison in 2017, with whom she collaborated to intimidate Lee.
Using three illegal SIM cards, she pretended to be a hacker, sending messages suggesting she was in possession of scandalous photos of celebrities.
Kim managed to extort ₩300 million KRW (about $216,000 USD) from Lee under the pretense of needing hush money. However, Kim did not share the proceeds with Park, leading Park to blackmail Lee directly and obtain ₩50.0 million KRW (about $36,000 USD) from him as well.
Despite the severity of the charges, Park has been bringing her one-year-old child to every court appearance.
Legal sources revealed that the Incheon District Prosecutors’ Office, under the Women’s and Children’s Crime Investigation Division led by Jung Hee Sun decided not to prosecute Park for child abuse. The decision, made on July 4, came after considering that Park is a single mother with no alternative childcare options.
In December last year, Park attended another warrant review at the Incheon District Court, carrying her infant, leading to public outrage. Critics argued that exposing a child to the chaos of a courtroom filled with cameras and a large crowd constituted emotional abuse.
However, the prosecution concluded that there was no basis for the child abuse charges, taking into account Park’s circumstances as a single mother.
