Man Sets His Own House On Fire After Giving The Fire Department A Five-Minute “Warning”
On Wednesday, August 1, a South Korean man set his own house on fire after informing firefighters about the crime.
The suspect, a 55-year-old Mr. A, is currently under investigation on a charge of committing arson on his own home. Local police officials in Nonsan, South Chungcheong province, stated that he called the Nonsan Fire Station and urged them to rush to his house within five minutes, explaining what he was about to do.
According to the authorities, Mr. A set his house on fire as soon as he saw the fire trucks, having doused it in gasoline in advance. He was, however, concerned about the fire spreading to the neighbors’ homes.
The incident occurred around 3:34 p.m., and the firefighters took around 30 minutes to put out the flames. No injuries or deaths occurred, but the blaze reportedly damaged property worth ₩13.0 million KRW (about $9,500 USD).
According to reports, the suspect was wearing a suit and had removed canisters of combustible gas from his home beforehand. He told the authorities that he was worried about the fire spreading to adjacent houses and hence reported to them before committing the arson.
Investigators have confirmed that Mr.A was not under the influence of alcohol at the time of committing the crime. They are still trying to figure out why he set his own home ablaze.
