The 26-Year-Old Idol Who Nearly Debuted For The 7th Time
In K-Pop, idols making more than one debut has almost become a norm, especially with the popularity of survival shows. Including their debuts as solo idols, some idols have hit over 3-4 debuts during their careers.
One K-Pop idol nearly hit seven debuts from the start of her career in 2019 until this year.
In 2019, UPVOTE Entertainment introduced a female idol, Chaewon, to their project group DPOP Friends through a dance cover of Produce 48 songs(1). Shortly after, she seemingly left this company and was added to the line-up of a pre-debut group called MIDNIGHT, joining in time for the release of their third pre-debut single in August 2019(2).
In September, it was revealed that she had left the group before their debut, which never occurred. She made her third debut in January 2020 as a member of Great Company‘s Daydream, changing her name to Chaeha after being added in December.
A conflict with the company would lead her to leave the group and join another company, where she debuted as a member of the project group Chic&I‘s under the name Xindy (4).
After initially stating she would debut as a member of ZEROSIX, Xindy instead made her solo debut with “Mermaid” in May 2022 (5). Amid the wait for ZEROSIX’s debut, Xindy was also listed as a member of Chic Angel, another group under Liz Entertainment(6).
ZEROSIX eventually was rebranded to WE-SAY, showing there were still plans for the group, which included their first pre-debut single, “Same or Different.” (7)
Ultimately, this group also did not come to fruition after it was announced that Xindy terminated her contract in March 2024.
Hopefully, where ever Xindy is at the moment, she is enjoying what she is doing!
