A recent Instagram post garnered much attention as they announced that the names of foreigners on Korean documents will be unified.
The account hipkr_ posted with the title, “Foreigners Names Unified as ‘Last Name-First Name,” and mentioned singer John Park.
“Going forward, foreigner names recorded on Korean administrative documents will be unified as ‘Last Name-First Name.‘ On August 28, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced a plan to standardize foreigner names.
The plan stated that the last and first names would be written in capital Roman letters, with Korean names having the last and first name together in Korean letters. For the convenience of foreigners, the Roman letters and Korean names will be written together.”
As examples, they revealed Harry Potter to be written as “POTTER HARRY” and Tom Sawyer as “SAWYER TOM.” In the main photo, they wrote, “John Park is now Park John,” garnering a huge response from netizens.
